Contest Entry: Grapha

"A blind, hideous beast that lives deep in the depths of the earth. Its age is unknown, as are its origins. All that is known about it is that is guards the gate into the city of gold from any and all intruders. Though a monstrous, abominable beast, Grapha actually means no evil in his actions; rather he seeks to do the exact opposite. Within the golden city awaits an ancient evil, sealed millennia ago within the gates of the city. Legend says that if Grapha is ever tricked, and someone manages to enter the city, the evil would awaken and destroy the world..."
Height: 70 meters
Length: 120 meters
Weight: 50,000 tons
Powers: Incredible sense of smell, terrifying speed, surprising strength, able to climb sheer rock surfaces using his sharp claws and strong forelimbs, hind legs can be used like scythes to slash foes, tail can be used as a powerful bludgeon, tongue is tipped with venomous barbs that cause paralysis and shock.
Diet: Can eat nearly any organic matter he pleases, though he generally eats underground mushrooms or strange insects called Kryll.

Here is my contest entry for 's 6th contest. The contest asked for one to create a mythical guardian monster. Since most people would make a heroic creature, I decided to make something off-the-wall- a completely alien creature with a simple, though well-intentioned, existence.
